ATFBW Chapter 6

A Town For Bald Women, Chapter 6

Blythe was settling into the Town nicely. She'd wished she could have come earlier, as the relationships with her new friends was proving invaluable, whether it was Violet's role as mentor, her daughters' innocence, Sophia's wisdom, and especially Phoebe and Sasha's love for each other. It was almost enough to make her forget about all of her life's troubles.

This morning, she was having breakfast with Violet's current household. Violet's daughters were touching and examining her newly smooth head.

"Girls, stop gawking at her. You'd think you'd have never seen a bald head before." Violet scolded.

"It's all right. You know, at first I thought you ladies used something on your heads to make them so shiny."

Violet laughed. "No, no. Naturally shiny."

Camille pulled her shirt up. "Look, my belly is too!"

Blythe examined it. "Oh, yes. Is your baby going to be born here?"

"Well, I was thinking so. It would be nice... We have medical professionals here, right, Violet?"

"I believe so, yes."

"How about a midwife?"

"Maybe... that reminds me, it might be a good time for a town meeting. I've got several things we should talk about there." Blythe wondered what it would be like.

An hour or two later, Violet had gathered most of the citizens in the church. Blythe had never seen so many bald heads in one place, let alone bald women. There was a loud mass of indecipherable conversation until Violet called the meeting to order.

"Now then. First thing- I suggest we have a town festival in the near future!" The congregation cheered as they heard this news. "Of course everyone will have to do their part before and after, but I'm sure we'll achieve a good time.

Next, as I'm sure you all know, the lovely Camille is planning to have her baby here. I'm sure we would have people willing to assist?"

One woman raised her hand. "I'm a nurse and my husband is a doctor. I know how it's done." Camille asked for a midwife. Another spoke up, saying she had done it before several times.

"Wonderful." Violet went on, "As the sun is still shining most days, do we have enough hats for everyone? We don't want our beautiful heads to get burned."

People talked among themselves, some saying they had one or two. Most agreed they had enough.

"Lovely." Violet spoke more about about the planning and maintenance of the town, then she took questions. Among the first was from Phoebe. "I have a question. Since we are in our own town and have our own rules, I wonder if Sasha and I may get married here."

Violet thought for a second. "I don't see why not. In fact, I'm sure that would be wonderful. Yes, we'd all love that wouldn't we?" Everyone did.

After the meeting was over Sasha spoke with Phoebe.

"Your idea is great... but why didn't you ask me first?"

"I knew you would say yes. Did you want a formal proposal?"

"It would be nice." Sasha said, smiling. Phoebe ran off for a few minutes. When she came back, she had a ring in her hand.

"Then, will you marry me, Sasha?"

"Oh yes, oh yes!" The two kissed. Everyone still there congratulated them.

One was an interested young woman. "Excuse me, I'm a lesbian too. Could we maybe have a sub-society meeting with lesbians like us?"

"I'd love that. After dinner sound good?" Phoebe went on.

"Sure. How about at the bar, next to the mysterious barn?"

"Good idea."

"You know about the mysterious barn?" asked Sasha.

"Oh we all know about it by now. One day, I'm sure we'll be able to get it open. If there are animals I hope they're all right."
